Whether you own a small local business or manage an office for a large company, you’ll already know that a clean office is a productive one. From daily cleaning services to specialty janitorial solutions, you have to keep the office clean and tidy for clients and employees alike. However, if you are a smaller company or perhaps going through a hard time financially, you may be considering do-it-yourself pest control rather than hiring a professional. Here are a few pieces of DIY pest control advice.

One of the most important aspects of DIY pest control is checking all windows and doors to ensure they are appropriately sealed. It may seem impossible that you can get pests through the tiniest cracks in your office building’s windows and doors, but you would be surprised at how little space mice, ants, and even spiders need to get in. Check every window, door, and opening to ensure its sealed; if it has been a while since maintenance has been done, use new sealing to prevent new pest infestations. If your windows have screens and there are any nicks, replace them right away.

Sealing your office’s openings should be done from the exterior as well as the interior. Seal openings, cracks and gaps, starting from the ground floor up. If you have a single office space, this won’t matter to you. However, if you own a multi-level office building, start from the bottom and carefully seal all openings according. Other important factors in do-it-yourself pest control prevention include cleanup around trash bins, ensuring the trash bin itself is clean before putting in a new liner, and encouraging employees to pick up after themselves, especially kitchen and common areas.

An important part of creating an attractive business front is beautiful landscaping. From vibrant bushes and flowers to trees that provide seasonal fragrance, landscaping is great for retaining customers and shows you truly care about curb appeal. However, recognize that plants bring bugs, and often more than butterflies or the occasional bee. Another outdoor outlet that attracts insects to your property is outdoor lighting. Security lighting is critical, especially if you are open late, but it can attract more than one kind of uninvited guest.

There are several things that you and your staff can do overtime to ensure you’re not overrun by pests. From keeping windows and doors properly sealed to picking up trash, these are simple methods for any office to keep the majority of pests away. However, because you’ll often be busy taking care of business, it may be critical to find some wiggle room in your budget to hire a commercial exterminator in Tacoma
